Introducing our brand new, free-to-use match tools: MatchDraw™, MatchWeigh™ and MatchLive™

Introducing Angling Match Tools by ERB Angling Club

Behind the scenes we’ve been working on a brand new, modern system that should make the whole administrative process of angling matches a breeze. It’s been designed to be as easy to use as possible, from start to finish.

These new tools have been designed and custom-built for ERB Angling Club, but they’re free-to-use for anyone. Other angling clubs and fisheries are welcome to use them. Anglers are invited to test them, and generate some peg draws and weigh-in sheets for themselves so they can experience the randomness first-hand. Please feel free to have a fiddle with our new match tools, and see what you think!

So… what’ve we been working on, then?

MatchDraw™Peg Draw Generator

https://draw.erbangling.club

Our peg tool makes it incredibly easy, and takes the hassle out of doing a draw on match day.

Using industry-standard and mathematically-sound random shuffle algorithms (see, Fisher-Yates) we’re able to assure a completely fair, perfectly random peg draw result every single time. No gimmicks. No tokens that go missing. Faster and fairer in every way.

MatchWeigh™ Weighing-In System

https://weigh.erbangling.club

No longer requiring scraps of paper that go missing or get wet; we’re now able to perform a weigh-in from start to finish using our brand new weighing-in web app. Any weigh-ins are instantly backed up to database and broadcast to anglers and spectators.

If we generate a draw sheet earlier in the day, before the match starts, then we’ll be able to use this same draw sheet to pre-populate angler’s names and pegs in order to input results even faster.

What’s the best part of it all?

We’ve saved the best until last. This next tool is designed for all anglers to have installed on their phones. Simply load it up on your mobile device, and add it to your home screen. This will install it to your device as a PWA (Progressive Web App), in case of poor internet connection or no signal, you’ll always be able to load the app and listen out for match updates that your phone is able to fetch when your signal is restored.

MatchLive™ Live SYNC Match Updates

https://live.erbangling.club

Receive live-synced match updates delivered directly to your device, in real time. From your peg, car, the café, or even if you’re spectating from home; you’ll never miss a peg draw announcement or weigh-in result again!

Ask your match organiser for the unique match code prior to events starting, and you’ll be able to follow along. If you miss the start, don’t worry – you can still join part-way through and you’ll be able to instantly catch up on everything you missed!

Offline-mode + Interruption-protection

It’s worth mentioning that all of our brand new web apps are designed to work entirely offline. In the event that the location we’re fishing at is too remote for us to get a working internet connection; that’s entirely okay, because the apps will continue to work and function. All results are backed up to local storage on devices, prior to being uploaded to the server. They’re only removed from local storage once the server confirms a successful upload, so our weigh-in results are always safe!

In the event that the match organiser, or weigh-in officiator’s mobile device or tablet loses power, or accidentally refreshes the page – this too won’t matter, because the new tools are able to detect when a weigh-in was abandoned mid-way, and will restore any previous entries, so you can simply carry on from where you left off!

Install the new web apps to your mobile!

To install the brand new match tools to your mobile device or tablet:

  1. Simply load them up in your native web browser (usually safari on iOS and chrome on android)
  2. Click ‘add to home screen‘ (or save the web app to your device home screen in your usual way)
  3. Done! This will now automatically, and seamlessly install the web app onto your device, meaning you can now load it up even when you have no internet connection! It will now function like any other app installed to your phone, and can be launched from an icon.

If you experience any bugs or issues

Website Updates & Bug Fixes

An update has been pushed to the website to improve page load speeds and prevent future down-time.

The merchandise shop and angler log-ins have now been removed for the foreseeable future. This should resolve any issues faced when trying to access the website and match results.

Other notable bug fixes and improvements:

  • Page load speed dramatically improved.
  • Downtime should be much less, if any at all.
  • Added ‘All-Time Top 10’ to Biggest Fish page.
  • Hidden peg numbers on match result pages unless mobile devices are in landscape mode (improves readability and hides unimportant info on smaller devices).
  • Fixed header image displaying incorrectly on some mobile devices.
  • Fixed announcement and upcoming match bubble icons overlapping logo on some mobile devices.
  • Fixed photo gallery on match results pages – images now display with lightbox mode.
  • Fixed season awards being applied to wrong angler accounts (it was failing to apply wildcards in some instances when calculating league winners at end of season – publicly visible league standings were always correct; however the awards applied to individual anglers profiles were incorrect).
  • Fixed fatal error when trying to view league tables with guests included.
  • Minor CSS & Style Fixes to improve overall appearance.
  • General database clean-up and consolidation (Colin’s a little bit dim; creating many duplicate entries).
  • Complete physical backup of website and database.

New Biggest Fish Record: Previous record holder dethroned after 9 long years in the top spot!

Big news from August; as Ken Gibbs our previous biggest fish record holder who caught a 15lbs 14oz carp way back on the 20th September 2015, was finally kicked out of the top spot by new record holder Adam Smith.

Adam caught a huge 16lbs 1oz carp on 24th August 2024. Taking the crown from Ken Gibbs after 9 long years of uncontested bragging rights.

Congratulations to Adam on the new ERB club record!
